Phil Mickelson Pushed His Way Into Professional Golf Through A Scholarship

Phil Mickelson is one of the few who took to golf as soon as he learnt how to walk. His passion for golfing began to show itself when he began running away to the golf course at the age of three.

He took to golfing as a career when he was 22 years old, and went on to become one of the most acclaimed and highest earning players the sport ever produced.

Mickelson took up an amateur golfing career from his teenage. His skills at golfing saw him through San Diego Junior Golf Association titles a total of 34 times. He got to different locations to play tournaments and matches using his father's employment as an official of an airline to get tickets for the trips.

His association with American Junior Golf Association saw through  his three consecutive wins. It was his skills at golfing that were developed here and these brought him a scholarship from Arizona State University in Tempe for his degree in psychology in 1992.

As a left-hander, he was the first one to get a US Amateur title. He created another record when he emerged victorious in the PGA Tour tournament he took up as an amateur.

A series of wins made him rank among the highest paid golfers of his time. There were some more wins and losses down the line. The year 2014 saw him in the British Open, where he shot above everyone else on the scoreboard with his knack with the ball.
